Thank you to everyone who attended the IABC monthly program today! I think the program was well received and I hope everyone was able to learn more about the value of building a digital portfolio. My presentation for download is available below. Thank you to my IABC board members for asking me to speak and to Beth Walker for helping me prep for the presentation. :) And a big thank you to my colleagues at Kelly for attending! I will be doing a repeat of the program at the IABC Heritage Conference during the student session. Visit the Heritage Region Web site for additional information on the 2 day conference. | October 9-11 | Detroit, Mich. If anyone has any additional questions about the information in today's program, please don't hesitate to contact me! Sell Yourself | Use a Digital Portfolio to Brand yourself in a Tight Job Market ||Download Presentation Cheers! MonaThomas Goetz, Executive Editor of Wired Magazine has been exploring how data can come to life and can be visualized to help us better understand our actions and environments. In this exhibit he's selected work to render meaning. He says this "range of visual pioneers transform raw data into compelling information and beautiful displays". Goetz calls these visual pioneers "part graphic designers, part statisticians, part artists". They create beautiful meaning in ways we don't usually expect from raw data. They are simply displays of quantitative information. The exhibit includes illustrations about data compiled from Ecloud, Wiki communities, Amsterdam SMS messages, deletion discussions on wikipedia, Skype, map of earthquake tweets and others. By far, this is one of the most compelling exhibits in digital media that i've seen since my undergraduate studies at the University of Detroit Mercy in my Electronic Critique (Digital Media Studies) program. My former director and professor Marcel O'Gorman would love this! I think this is a great project for the Digital Media Studies program and wish we had done something like this as a class. Each student creates their own project that comes together as a live digital exhibit. Follow the link below to reach the exhibit. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
