Program at a Glance
The objective of this campaign was to develop a learning series that educated workers and transitioning students on the benefits of building their "Brand You." The series focused on using technology techniques and search strategies to build a positive digital footprint leveraging Google search, a digital portfolio, and social media. While anyone can benefit from the campaign, I paid particular attention to assisting near retirement workers, transitioning students, and those generally unaware of how to leverage digital mediums to build and protect their personal and professional brands. The fundamentals to my teaching approach are holistic in nature, leveraging cross-function and multi medium learning tools. Below is a sample of content elements that were established that supported the learning campaign as a whole.
Ebook Learning Guides: Content Series
This series is meant to be a deep dive into the 'how to' elements of building their personal and professional brands through technology. These e-books/e-learning guides were supported and scaled through a series of shorter more consumable blogs, giving program participants an opportunity to decide how deep they want to go in the material.
Building your personal brand may sound like the last thing you need to do if you’re happy and challenged in your current job. Whether you work for yourself, for a large organization or a very small one, it’s just smart career management to demonstrate why you’re an expert in your respective domain — and to do this in ways that colleagues and associates can witness every day. Developing your personal brand is now essential to ongoing career development, even if you’re not actively searching for a new job. Today, take control of the biggest brand in your life; the brand called ‘You’.

Clean Up your Digital Dirt
While the use of social channels to screen potential hires can expose companies to legal pitfalls, and there are many issues around discrimination and privacy that must be considered, companies can and do use social media information to augment the hiring process. Some use it well, others may not, but the sheer scale of social media activity means candidates must be aware that in various ways it has become part of the hiring process. So, if you’re online, you should assume your hiring manager, recruiter or HR rep is too. You should assume that how you present online is (at least) as important as how you present in person. The time to clean up is now. |
The competitive nature of the employment market means individuals need to find ways to stand out and ‘sell’ themselves. It’s a new appendix to your resume. This is nothing new, it’s just that the ways in which you can do this have changed—and mostly they’ve moved online. However, you don’t need to be a tech genius to sell your skills online. There are many simple and free tools you can use to get started. If there is one golden rule when it comes to building your online portfolio it’s this: brag as much as you like, but be honest and get ready to back it up. Here are my tips to getting started and making it work.

Client Testimonial
Andrea Mills, Oakland University Program Lead
As the lead of Educational Sessions for the 2015 Student to Professional Conference at Oakland University, one of my main responsibilities was to identify inspiring speakers. By polling our committee and students, Mona Wehbe was suggested as a potential speaker as students has seen Mona's work at prior events.
I also recall Mona's name when I worked at Kelly Services, Mona has a great reputation in the professional world, therefore, I immediately reached out to see if she was interested in presenting on a session at our upcoming conference. Within hours Mona responded with energy, passion and could tell she did not think twice to volunteer her precious time to help educate college level students regarding their personal and professional brand. From then on, Mona was a pleasure to work with, extremely genuine, and full of ideas. Mona was always the first to reply back out of the speakers and her follow through was impeccable. Oakland University was beyond lucky to host Mona as one of our 12 speakers at our annual event and would love to have her come back to campus for future events. As we plan for our 2017 S2P conference, Mona's name continues to come up as students and staff appreciated the invaluable information and wisdom she shared with our OU community.
